Meet VW’s Insane Pikes Peak Car

Feast your eyes on the the Le Man Prototype looking Pikes Peak Hill Climb racer fresh out of the Volkswagen factory. The I.D. R Pikes Peak has two electric engines that produce 680 hp and 479 lb-ft. The prototype looking racer weighs in at 2,500 lbs and will do 0-60 mph in 2.25 seconds. With those types of numbers, the I.D. R Pikes Peak will hit numbers faster than a Formula 1 car.
Lithium-ion batteries will be utilized for the two electric motors with energy being recovered during the braking process.
The 4,720 foot vertical hill climb consists of 156 corners with Sebastian Loeb setting the record in 2013 with his insane Peugeot 208. The record stands at 8 minutes 13 seconds.
