The New Mercedes-AMG GT4 Revealed

The latest addition to the world of sports car racing comes from the German auto maker this week in the form of a new GT4 version race car based off the AMG GT R road car.
The AMG GT GT4 has made its debut right before this weekend’s Spa 24 Hour race, this weekend and the rest of the year will be a factory backed effort with customer cars taking delivery later on this year.
The GT4 is completely based off the street/track-prepped AMG GT R but will use an engine that is more suited to the much-less powerful GT S street car. Both cars use the AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. This will be the first AMG race car to use the twin-turbo model engine because the GT GT3 race car surprising uses the old naturally aspirated V8. The reason really isn’t too complicated. The answer from AMG and some of the drivers of the GT3 says it is purely based off of the complexity of the turbo-charged engine and maintenance cost compared to the “bulletproof” naturally aspirated v8.
The GT4 will weigh in at 3064 lbs with carbon-fiber bodywork mounted to an aluminum spaceframe. The GT3 and GT4 car will share similar safety equipment with almost identical construction of the roll cage to protect the drivers.
Prior to the customer cars being delivered to race teams AMG plans to complete 30,000 kilometers of testing.
The question everyone may have, how much will the AMG racer cost me? The price is set at 232,000 USD. The GT4 will be competing on the track against other GT4 entries from BMW, Porsche, McLaren, Ford and Chevy.
